Metro Schools College Prep, a charter school district No. 4131, has successfully completed 18 years of operation. Our school community is dedicated to creating a caring and supportive learning environment for students from all around the world. Our academic program is designed to prepare students for college, and we offer a complete educational experience with an elementary school, middle school, and high school, all located in the same facility.
Formerly known as Lighthouse Academy of Nations, Metro Schools was established in 2005. Over the years, we have expanded to include a middle school in 2012-13 and an elementary school in 2016-2017. The middle and high school programs share the same philosophy and administration.
After being located in South Minneapolis for many years, we moved to a new and bigger facility on Olson Memorial Highway in downtown Minneapolis in 2017. The move has allowed us to take advantage of new opportunities, including a gymnasium, which has improved our students' learning experience. Even in 2019-2020, our school continued to attract more students due to the new facilities. This year, we received approval for enrollment expansion and grade level expansion, which enables many families to enroll their children at our school. We currently have over 1000 students enrolled.
Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-2021, Metro Schools received approval to run an online school, which expanded learning opportunities for our students. This approval enabled our school community to navigate the barriers and continue providing quality education.
We are proud of our diverse student community, which includes students of different ethnicities, such as Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, and Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander. At Metro Schools, we are committed to providing an inclusive learning environment that celebrates diversity and promotes equity.
