Metro Schools Is Open!
Metro Schools is providing Distance Learning for grades 5 through 12 starting on August 26, 2020. All Metro students will be issued Chromebooks as part of our regular instruction. We will host Chromebook pick-up times this Monday, August 26 through Tuesday, August 27, 2020 from 9 AM until 6PM
When Distance Learning was introduced last spring, it was an emergency response to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in Minnesota. Since that time, Metro Schools has added new resources to support Distance Learning. Our teachers are committed to providing students and families the best learning experience possible given these circumstances. One major addition is that we will be using Schoology as a learning platform to deliver course work and to track student performance. Schoology is a learning management system (LMS) that supports collaboration between students and teachers. It allows teachers to create assignments and content, quizzes, and discussion boards for those lessons tied to state standards. Lessons have a built-in discussion board for students to engage with each other. Teachers can assign grades so that students get feedback on their learning. Students should have already received information on how to log in and access their accounts.
Parents can talk or communicate directly with their child’s teachers regarding Distance Learning. Families are asked to inform the teacher if they do not have Internet access at home since access to Schoology and completion of regular 5-12 assignments will require Internet access by the student. Parents, along with teachers and students, are asked to remember that online learning days are designed to be flexible: if a child struggles with a concept or assignment and is unable to complete the work that day, parents should remind their student to communicate with the teacher about how to meet requirements. Parents should contact teachers directly with any questions, concerns or frustrations they may have regarding Distance Learning assignments.
Please contact Mr. Elmi, the school's Executive Director, if you have any questions!
